Express Entry

Canada’s Express Entry Program is one of the most popular immigration pathways for skilled workers who want to build a life in Canada. Known for its efficiency and transparency, Express Entry offers a fast-track route to permanent residency. Whether you’re seeking better career opportunities, world-class education, or a high quality of life, this program could be your gateway to making Canada your new home.

What is the Express Entry Program?

Express Entry is an online immigration system launched by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in 2015. It manages applications for permanent residency under three key economic immigration programs:

  1. Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
For skilled workers with foreign work experience.

  2. Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
For skilled tradespeople with qualifications and experience in specific trades.

  3. Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
For individuals with prior work experience in Canada.

The program uses a points-based system called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to rank candidates in the Express Entry pool. The highest-ranking candidates receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.

How Does Express Entry Work?

The Express Entry process involves four main steps:

1. Check Your Eligibility

Determine which of the three programs you qualify for by meeting specific criteria, such as:

  • Education level.
  • Work experience.
  • Language proficiency in English or French.
  • Age and adaptability.

2. Create an Express Entry Profile

Submit an online profile with details about your:

  • Age, education, and work experience.
  • Language test scores (IELTS, CELPIP, or TEF).
  • Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for foreign degrees.

Your profile is placed into the Express Entry pool and assigned a CRS score.

3. Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA)

IRCC conducts regular draws, usually every two weeks, to invite the highest-ranking candidates in the pool to apply for permanent residence.

4. Submit Your PR Application

If you receive an ITA, you have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residency. The application must include supporting documents such as:

  • Police clearance certificates.
  • Medical exam results.
  • Proof of funds (if required).

Once submitted, IRCC processes most applications within 6 months.
